How do I play for husky ice hockey?

In order to play on any of the hockey teams within the club at the University of Washington, you must be a regularly enrolled student at the University. No satellite campus students are all allowed to play on the Seattle-campus club sports teams.

Two Teams to Consider

The team referred to as the "PAC-8/ACHA team" is a travel rep team, which competes in the national American Collegiate Hockey Association's Division II and the PAC-8 Conference. The PAC-8/ACHA team requires players to tryout, among other eligibility requirements. The information below will help recruits know the requirements for playing for the team. If you are interested, please read the remaining of the information below and fill out the form on the recruit form page.

The team referred to as "Team Husky" is open to all students, faculty and staff. This team competes in a local recreational league from October to April. For more information on Team Husky, please fill out the form on the recruit form page. Also, if you are a student interested in starting an all- women's team at the University of Washington, please contact at one of the email addresses below.

Before Trying Out for the Pac-8/ACHA Team

The PAC-8 requires players to be full-time students, which is 12 credits for undergraduates and 9 credits for graduate students. ACHA requires that its players carry and pass a minimum of 9 credits per semester, maintaining a minimum of a 2.0 cumulative grade point average at all times to be eligible to play. Players falling below the criteria will be ineligible to play until their academic performance improves.

All players must wear full equipment for tryouts, practice and game including a NCAA-approved facemask. Before the beginning of the first tryout session, players must pay a $75 tryout fee. No one will be allowed on the ice before the tryout fee is paid. Any player who has outstanding dues from past seasons will also not be allowed to tryout until the past dues are paid.

The first organizational meeting is usually held a week before classes start. BRING A PEN! You will need to fill out information sheets, IMA club sports forms, ACHA forms and more at the meeting. All tryouts will be held at Olympicview Arena located in Mountlake Terrace, WA. It is approximately 10-15 minutes north of the campus.

Fees: Fees for the season are $2000 per player, plus travel and uniforms. $900 is due at or before the first practice (date to be determined). Players will not be allowed on the ice until this first installment is made in full. Tryouts costs will be applied to the year total once you make the team, or applied to the cost of Team Husky if you choose to play on that team. Team uniforms rental fee (home & away jersey and socks) is $90 and must be paid prior to the first practice. Travel costs will be for approximately 3 flights to California, 4-5 driving road trips, plus hotels and food. Players are responsible for all travel costs. We do our best to car pool, share hotels rooms and get the best flight deals in order to deter those costs. However, please be prepared to have a minimum of $800 or more set aside for travel before the season starts.

Games: We will play approximately 32 games this year on the West Coast, competing as part of the ACHA’s Division II, and PAC-8 Conference.

Equipment: You must provide your own equipment. We prefer that all players have black pants, helmets and gloves.

Before Trying Out For Team Husky
Team Husky plays in the Greater Seattle Hockey League (GSHL), which is a co-ed recreational league. The team skates in Division 3A (out of 17 total). All students, faculty and staff with an IMA card are allowed to play. All league and uniform fees must be paid up front, totally approximately $500 +/-. This team supports all levels, from beginners to advance player, and everyone gets equal ice time. The season runs from October through March, and there are approximately 30 games played.
